Sikh Musical Heritage - The Untold Story

Produced by Professor Surinder Singh, Jasvir Kaur Rababan, Azadvir Singh, and Sebastian Van Der Velde; Written By Azadvir Singh and Sebastian Van Der Velde

The feature-length documentary Sikh Musical Heritage: The Untold Story is an in-depth look at the history of traditional Sikh instrumentation and their crucial role as the foundations to correctly performing the devotional singing known as Kirtan of the Sikh Scripture, Guru Granth Sahib. Through a series of interviews, musical performances and historical discussions the film connects the origins of Sikh instrumentation to present-day. Sikh Musical Heritage: The Untold Story is a visual account of largely overlooked historic events, from the introduction of Kirtan to the Sikh faith by Guru Nanak Dev Ji to the invasion of the British Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries that nearly destroyed the Sikh culture.
