NYC Bhangra

NYC Bhangra is New York City’s premier organization for Indian dance performance and education. Founded in May 2007 by travel industry entrepreneur Megha Kalia, NYC Bhangra was initially conceived as a means to promote and perform traditional folk dances of North India. Early responses and word-of-mouth praise led to enormous growth with a passionate and diverse membership, comprised of talented individuals from all different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.

Its mission has since evolved to embrace the education and exploration of India’s rich culture and heritage.  The organization has regularly performed at numerous public and private events, ranging from classrooms at Columbia University to large festivals, highlighted by appearances at the New York Times Travel Show, the NYC Annual Dance Parade, United Nations, City Hall, Sony TV’s SAE Awards in NYC, and memorable performances at the Indian Consulate in New York City.

NYC Bhangra offers dance classes, open to all skill levels, at the Ripley Grier Dance Studio in midtown Manhattan. The sessions are fun yet challenging, blending step-by-step instruction with full speed, nonstop dancing to Punjabi music. Recently, the organization has also started offering weekend classes for beginners at the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park.
