Kamal Dandona - Producer

Kamal Dandona is the man behind the Bollywood Awards phenomenon in Atlantic City which ruled the South Asian “Desi” entertainment scene in the late 1990’s to 2006. International starts such as Shah Rukh Khan and Michael Jackson headlined the inaugural event.

Considered by many to be the Indian Oscars, the show brought the Indian movie industry into the Hollywood setting. Hollywood has been extremely supportive – Sharon Stone, Tyra Banks, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Richard Gere have attended the gala.

A few years ago Rani Mukherjee, Arjun Rampal, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Aftab Shivdasani and Boomika Chawla performed at the awards.  With the success of the Bollywood and music awards, Dandona gave birth to another awards program – the Fashion Awards. His daughter Sonia co-hosted the event with superstars Steven Seagal, Nikki Hilton and Jerry Hall. According to Dandona, "Indian designers aren’t making fashion only for the Indian market any more; they’re making it for the global market."

For all his efforts and hard work in the field of entertainment, Kamal Dandona has received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the first International South Asian Media Awards presentation. He has been covered by CNN, Fox News, ABC News, as well as the Washington Post, New York Times, amongst other mainstream media.
